LEAVES AND ABSENCES
1. REQUEST FOR LEAVE DUE TO SICKNESS
The medical certificate must be sent to the administrative office’s email (ppgsc@contato.ufsc.br) within 15 (fifteen) business days after the first day of the medical certificate, and it is the student or his/her representative’s responsibility to file his/her request within this deadline. If the request is untimely, the student will lose the right to take leave for medical treatment for the days already elapsed. Therefore, the certificate will be considered as of the date it is filed with the Program’s office;
The maximum period of leave for medical treatment for the student will be 180 (one hundred and eighty) days, extendable for another 180 (one hundred and eighty) days;
The maximum period of leave for medical treatment of a family member will be 90 (ninety) days, considering family members as the spouse or partner, parents, children, stepfather or stepmother, as well as stepchildren or dependents who demonstrably live at the student’s expense.
Medical certificates with periods of less than 30 (thirty) days will not be considered leave for medical treatment, and these periods will not be added to the deadline for completion of the course.
2. APPLICATION FOR MATERNITY LEAVE
The student must send her birth certificate to the administrative secretary’s email (ppgsc@contato.ufsc.br). Maternity leave is granted for a period of 6 (six) months. Students receiving CAPES/PROEX scholarships are guaranteed to receive the scholarship during the maternity leave period, in addition to the extension of the scholarship for another 4 (four) months.
3. COURSE WITHDRAWAL APPLICATION
The student must complete the Course Withdrawal Form and send it, duly signed, to the administrative secretary’s email (ppgsc@contato.ufsc.br). Along with the form, the student must attach a statement of payment of debts to the BU;
Course withdrawal is regulated in Article 52 of the 2017 Public Health Internal Regulations or in Article 57 of the 2022 Public Health Internal Regulations.

EXTENSIONS
1. APPLICATION FOR COURSE TERM EXTENSION
The student must fill out the Course Term Extension Form and send it, duly signed, to the administrative secretary’s email (ppgsc@contato.ufsc.br);
Requests for course term extensions are assessed and deliberated by the program’s board. CHECK HERE the board’s meeting schedule;
According to the board’s decision on 12/12/2019, the maximum extension granted per request is 6 (six) months.
The extension of the course deadline is regulated in Art. 53 of the 2017 Public Health Internal Regulations or in Art. 58 of the 2022 Public Health Internal Regulations.
According to Resolution 05/2020/CPG: In cases where the student defends his/her dissertation or thesis within 30 (thirty) days after the end of the regulatory deadline, the Graduate Program may forward the defense request normally, considering this deadline as an adjustment to the defense committee’s calendar.
2. REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATION EXTENSION
The student must complete the Qualification Deadline Extension Form and send it, duly signed, to the administrative secretary’s email (ppgsc@contato.ufsc.br);
Requests for qualification deadline extensions are assessed and deliberated by the program’s board. CHECK HERE the board’s meeting schedule.
For requests to extend the qualification deadline, the same understanding applies to requests to extend the course deadline, that is, the maximum extension granted per request is 6 (six) months and, if the qualification is scheduled after 30 days of the regular deadline, it is not necessary to request an extension of the qualification deadline.
3. REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING THE DISSERTATION OR THESIS TO BU/UFSC
After the defense of the dissertation or thesis, the examining board sets the deadline for submitting the final version to the University Library (BU), which is recorded in the defense minutes.
If the student does not submit the final version of the dissertation or thesis within the deadline set by the committee, he/she must request an extension of the deadline for submitting the TCC to the BU from the program’s delegated committee, specifying the justification and the necessary extension time, in days, with the consent and signature of the advisor, according to the model: Deadline Extension Form for Submitting the TCC to BU/UFSC.
The form must be sent to the administrative secretary’s email (ppgsc@contato.ufsc.br) to be assessed and deliberated by the program’s committee. CHECK HERE the committee’s meeting schedule.
